Sir Winkle recorded an impressive first-up victory at Scone and he was not disgraced when he finished second carrying a big weight at Cessnock last start. He maps to get a lovely run in transit right on the speed and he does drop in weight slightly. He is well-placed to return to winning form.

San Marco has recorded three wins from his past four race starts and there is no doubt that he is racing in career best form. He beat a good field to win a Highway Handicap at Royal Randwick last month and he was not disgraced in a stronger race than this at Hawkesbury. There is no reason that he can’t return to winning form.

It has been a while between race wins for Mongolian Wolf, but he is over the odds in what is an open edition of the Taree Gold Cup. He has been racing well without winning in tougher races than this one and I like the fact that trainer Kris Lees has given him a barrier trial in between his race starts.

Designer Maid failed to fire at Eagle Farm last start, but she is a much better mare than that performance suggests and I am willing to give her another chance. She showed plenty of speed to record two wins at Newcastle over 1000 metres and she should be able to cross this field to take up the running.
